Flower Essences – The Subtle Healing Power of Nature

The healing power of plants is undeniable. Flowers uplift our mood, promote health and well-being, and nurture us on a physical, emotional, and spiritual level. But besides what we can experience with our senses – color, scent, appearance of the flowers – there exists a subtle, deeper aspect, the vibrational energy of the flower.

Just as human consciousness has an effect on water crystals, so do plants have an effect on our own consciousness. Dr. Edward Bach, an English physician of the early 20th century, discovered that flowers, the most highly-developed part of the plant, have a very powerful vibrational energy that can be used to bring about physical, emotional, and spiritual healing. He believed, and rightly so, that one of the causes of disease was our emotions. Over the course of many years, he discovered a set of 38 flower remedies, each one corresponding to a particular mental or emotional state. To make each remedy, the flowers are placed in a glass bowl with pure spring water. The bowl is placed in the sun, a process called ‘solarization.’ The flower’s energy is infused into the water. The water is saved in small dropper bottles, with a little bit of alcohol, apple cider vinegar, or vegetable glycerine as a preservative. The usual way to take it is a few drops by mouth about 4 times per day. Or, you can put a few drops in a bottle or glass of water and sip throughout the day. The more often you take it, the more effective it is. Flower remedies have also been used extensively on animals. For example, the can be used to keep them calm, or to treat separation anxiety or aggression.

Flower essences are different from herbal medicine, in which the chemical components of the plant are preserved in the final product. The flower remedies are similar to homeopathic medicine, in which a minute dose is used, such a small amount that the original substance is vurtually undetectable. The smaller the amount of the original substance of homeopathic remedies, the more powerful it becomes.
